People who do not vote are like super heroes who do not use their powers. (LAME) The only way to change who is in our government is to vote for new people. If people want to change they must VOTE! TREE TRUNK = Tree trunks support tree branches and allow them to do their job. In government the tree trunk is our CONSTITUTION. This is a set of rules our government must follow. Group Legislative Branch The legislative branch is made up of the two houses —the Senate and the House of Representatives. These two groups have the important job of making laws. They must both agree on a law before it is passed. The people in this branch are also elected into it. Therefore if they are not doing a good job they will not be re-elected. Draw a large branch. At the Tip write Legislative Branch Next to that write what this branch does. On One side of the branch write Senate On the other side write House of Representatives Executive Branch The executive branch is made up of the Governor and other groups that enforce laws. They do not get to pick and choose what laws there are in America. This splits the power up so that each branch only has a little power. Can you think of another group that is the law enforcers? Draw a large branch Near the branch write Executive Branch. Next to that write what this branch does and who is in it. Judicial Branch The Judicial Branch is made up of the Michigan Supreme Court and other courts. When people break the law or need to know what the law means they must go to the judicial branch. Through court cases, the judicial branch explains the meaning of the Constitution and laws passed by Congress. The Supreme Court is the head of the judicial branch. The judges decide what punishments people should receive. Draw a large branch. At the tip write Judicial Write what this branch does and who is in it. |
